Our Impact & Mission

Building hope,
one child at a time.

"Picture a mother in Nanyuki braving whispers, navigating isolation, and raising a child with autism with nowhere to turn for help. Today, we stand at the edge of something powerful — a turning point that can rewrite these stories into ones of hope."

Autism in Kenya is misunderstood and underserved

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) remains widely stigmatised across Kenya. For families in rural areas like Laikipia, access to essential services speech, occupational, and behavioural therapy — is severely limited.

Children are underserved. Parents are overwhelmed. Communities remain unequipped to support neurodiverse individuals. Without timely, structured intervention, these children risk falling through the cracks — not because of their abilities, but because society lacks the systems to recognise and support them.

Isolation

Families face stigma and social exclusion with little community support.

No access

Therapy costs are far beyond the reach of most rural families.

Misconceptions

Autism is widely misunderstood, leading to delayed or no diagnosis.

Distance

Specialists are concentrated in Nairobi, hours away from those who need help.

A sanctuary. A team. A movement.

Tumaini St. Thorlak Autism Centre provides a bold, compassionate response. Housed in a purpose-built facility on Huruma Road, Nanyuki, we offer comprehensive, affordable therapy services tailored to children on the autism spectrum.

We employ and mentor local professionals, support families with training and counselling, and run awareness campaigns to educate the community. Tumaini is more than a therapy centre — it's a place where children are seen, celebrated, and supported. A space where caregivers find strength, and inclusion becomes a lived reality.

Occupational Therapy

Daily living skills, fine motor skills, and sensory integration.

Speech Therapy

Tailored speech and language interventions for children.

Free Counselling

Confidential guidance for families navigating the journey.

The momentum is real and building

Our launch on June 2nd, 2025, drew hundreds of families, clergy, professionals, and community members — revealing an immense appetite for autism support in our region. On Boxing Day, NCBA Bank donated a vehicle to boost our outreach capacity. The energy is here. Now is the time to act.

"The need has never been more urgent, and the response has already begun. Join us in turning this moment of momentum into a legacy of lasting change."

Rooted in faith. Driven by community.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Nyeri, with decades of trusted community service, leads this initiative. Our team includes speech therapists, occupational therapists, counsellors, educators, and parents — people with both expertise and lived experience.

This isn't a top-down project. It's a movement rising from within the community, for the community.

Built to last

  • Affordable therapy fees on a sliding scale — no family turned away.
  • Strong partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and Catholic health networks.
  • Grants and donor support funding infrastructure, staff training, and outreach.
